11 years of Tulodo, and the last 12 months have been some of the toughest!

When we started Tulodo back in 2015, I certainly didn’t know where the journey would take us. Eleven years later, we’re still learning, still asking questions, and still trying to figure out what makes people tick and how we can turn that understanding into positive change.
While 10 years was a big milestone, 11 feels like an even bigger achievement!
The last 12 months have been tough. We went almost 10 months without winning a new project. We had to make some difficult decisions, including reducing staff numbers and salaries for a while. It wasn’t easy, particularly for a team that has put so much into building Tulodo over the years.
But then the drought broke. We reduced our costs, refocused on what we do best, and kept going. We won a new project, then another, and another. A good reminder that sometimes getting through the tough times is an achievement in itself.
And despite the challenges, we’ve had the opportunity to work with some extraordinary people and organisations across Indonesia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, including Solomon Islands, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu.
Our work has covered everything from youth digital wellbeing and vaccines to education, livelihoods, the environment and climate change. Different places, different challenges, but one thing in common: people and their behaviour are at the heart of it all.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the projects we’ve delivered or the places we’ve worked, but the people who’ve been part of the journey. Our team, past and present, our partners, and the communities who’ve welcomed us, challenged our thinking and taught us so much. And particularly those who’ve stuck with us through the difficult times.
A huge thank you to everyone who’s been part of Tulodo’s first 11 years. It’s been quite an adventure, with more than a few ups and downs, and I’m looking forward to seeing where we go next.
